Mentorship Program
The GCMAS Education Committee is continuing a Mentorship Program for participants of JEGM2010 – the joint meeting of the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society and the European Society of Movement Analysis in Adults and Children. The objective is to facilitate the development of supportive relationships between individuals (typically student and professional) where knowledge, skills and experience are shared.
We are currently seeking students and professionals who are interested in participating in the program. If you would like to be a mentor or mentee, please contact a representative from the GCMAS Education Committee (Jill Higginson: higginson@udel.edu) before April 1, 2010. In your message, please include the following:
• Mentor or mentee
• Contact information (name, mailing address, email address)
• Brief description of your research interests
• Current career stage and professional goals
The Education Committee will attempt to match each mentee with an appropriate mentor based on research interests and desired career path. Notification of the mentor/mentee matches will be sent in mid-April. Following notification, it is the student’s responsibility to contact their assigned mentor. Tips to facilitate the mentor/mentee relationship are provided below.
At the JEGM2010 meeting, we invite the mentor/mentee to arrange for an initial meeting at the Wednesday Student Mixer (May 12, 2010). The participants can use this time to discuss educational and career objectives. The mentor will also attend the poster or podium presentation of the student and provide constructive feedback. The mentor may also introduce the student to colleagues and fellow students to help him/her establish a professional network.
